December | Equestrian Sports

A meeting about horse disciplines is best when you have access to a projector. If that’s not possible, at least have a laptop or two that the kids can sit around to see a video of each riding discipline. Riding disciplines, also known as Equestrian Sports, are sports that use horses as a main part of the sport. Either a rider is on the horse during the sport or the horse is pulling a horse-drawn vehicle.

Some of the most common equestrian sports are in the list below. I’ve included videos of each one so that you can easily play each one during the meeting. Make sure you have a good internet connection before you go to the meeting or your meeting might end up very short if you aren’t able to play the videos.

You can go through all of them or let the kids pick out the ones they want to see and learn about.

Short Descriptions of the Horse Riding Disciplines

Use these descriptions for a little more discussion or let the kids use them when making a horse booklet if they’d like to make it about equestrian sports.

Please see the horse craft section for instructions on how to make one!
